Discover the magical Christmas Markets of Alsace, as well as some of the most beautiful villages in France. You will once again feel like a child that has been transported to a bygone age as you stroll through the cobbled streets and Christmas Markets of Eguisheim, home to Pope Leon IX, Kaysersberg, voted France’s most beautiful village in 2017, and Riquewihr, the “Pearl of Alsace”.
As well as the Christmas Markets you may wish to sample some excellent Alsace wines and crémants with a wine tasting and cellar visit at a local winery in our home village of Voegtlinshoffen, producer of some of the best wines in the World.
Escape from the cold and enjoy Alsace cuisine with a three course lunch, including wine and coffee, at one of our favourite local restaurants.
We have organised tours since 1994, and here is an example of a typical Christmas Market tour, everything of which is flexible:
09h30 Pick up from your hotel in the Bicyclette Go ! minibus. Arrive in wonderful medieval wine village of Riquewihr, known as the pearl of Alsace, and enjoy a leisurely guided walking tour of the village and the Christmas Market. We may have the chance to visit a prestigious family run winery for a small tasting.
we drive through the vineyards to Kaysersberg, to vist one of Alsace’s first Christmas markets. Kaysersberg is the birth place of Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Schweitzer and we can explore the town and its magnificent fortified bridge.
Turckheim is a wonderful medieval village, complete with ramparts, and a smaller local Christmas Market, which we like a lot. Lunch will be here.
Eguisheim, was the home of Pope Leon IX in the 11th Century and we will meet him on the main square of the village. Eguisheim was voted the most beautiful village in France by the French in 2013 and, as well as its Christmas Markets, we will explore its picturesque ramparts and Pope Leon’s chapel.
After discovering some local secrets at one of our favourite wine villages, we arrive at our home village. Voegtlinshoffen is producer of some of the best white wines in the World. Here, we enjoy a full wine tasting at one of our favourite local wineries. In the village centre we will explain how our village was liberated by the Americans at the end of WW2.
18h30 Arrive back at your hotel (all times are approximate and the format of your tour is flexible)
